September News

We have been settling in to a steady routine in the classroom.
In Science, we started our unit on Position and Movement. We are working on becoming more comfortable answering questions related to the unit in French.
In Math, we have been reviewing some of the concepts that were covered in grade 1 and have been identifying if a number is even or odd. We are starting place value this week.
In Social Studies, we have been doing various activities involving items that are found in the classroom. We are building our sight vocabulary in French reading poems and singing some songs.
In French, we have been listening to stories, practicing our sight words with our Reading Buddies in grade 5 and answering questions in written form as well as orally.
In English, we have read some books from the series 'Don't Let the Pigeon...' and answered questions, compared the stories, did some graphing and some inferencing. We have started 'Words Their Way' and 'The Daily 5'. We have gone through one week of centres and have been talking about reading strategies and making predictions.
We have been busy and are having fun getting to know each other. Our main focus has been showing respect for our classmates, what it means to be a good friend and using our time wisely in the classroom. It has been a great start to another great school year!
Please keep me updated with any concerns you have in regards to your son/daughter socially or academically at school.
