We are celebrating our heritage!

Today we had 3 students present.

Tumia's ancestors come from Poland, the Phillipines and England. Here she is showing a carved box out of wood from the mountains of Poland. It has been passed down from her maternal grandmother.
Onan's ancestors come from Guyana, Germany and England. Onan shared his Guyanese culture. Here is the flag of Guyana. Onan also wore a shirt with a map of Guyana on it. He shared a vegetable curry dish that his paternal grandpa made.

In Guyana, people gather by the sea wall and release lanterns to celebrate Easter.
Last year, Onan won a trophy at the Guyanese picnic in Bird's Hill Park.

Anna shared many things about her Chinese culture. Here is some artwork that Anna did in China. Anna was born in China.
Anna also shared food and showed a decoration that is put up to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival.
There are 56 ethnic groups in China. Anna belongs to the Han group which is the largest in China.
Anna brought a dish to share with the class that is called Tzung Tzung. The tradition behind this dish is to scatter the rice across the water of the MiLow River to appease the river dragons so they wouldn't devour Chu Yuan who is the most famous poet of China. Anna also passed around a metal set if chopsticks that were handed down to her by her grandmother.
