Happy New Year!

We have been getting back into the swing of things this week at school.
In Science, we have been learning about animals and their habitats. We have started discussing the different characteristics of animals, what animals give us (food, clothing, leisure as well as love) and what animals are found in Canada.
In Social Studies, we have started our unit on Canada. We have identified symbols that are found throughout our country, discussed some capital cities and what makes each province and territory special.
In Math, we are working on identifying numbers in various ways. We are working on missing addends (Ex. 7+ ____ = 15). We have looked at insects that are symmetrical and used a 'Mira' to draw the other half of a chosen insect.
We are using the iPads to research interesting facts about our insect.
In French, we have been discussing Winter activities. We are looking at the temperature in Winnipeg and comparing it to the climate in other areas of Canada.
In English, we have been adding details to our writing and sharing our writing with our classmates.
In Art, we created the silhouette of a skyline and used chalk or oil pastels to add a firework display.
We have a new gym teacher named Mr. Fiola who will be doing Health with us one period per cycle. We are currently learning about the Four Basic Food Groups.
It has been cold and we have had many indoor recesses this week. We will try to get our exercise by moving around the classroom more and having some 'Brain Breaks' so we can dance around!
I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing Winter Break.
Looking forward to a fun 2015!
