It has been a long time since our last blog entry! Unfortunately, I was unable to remember my username to access the blog and was told by tech support to start a new blog! Yikes!
After many attempts, I have retrieved my information and am finally able to continue...
What have we been doing since our March conferences?
Math
The grade 2s have been learning about 3 dimensional shapes. We have been doing Math Problem of the Day, looking for patterns on the 100 chart and have been playing some Math games on our classroom iPads. The grade 3s have been working on multiplication and division. We are also doing fractions together as a whole class. The grade 2s have the opportunity to challenge their Math abilities and participate in some of the grade 3 activities. They are well prepared for the concepts that will be presented during the next school year!
Science
We finished our unit on Structures and have started our study on Plants. We planted bean pods and 'sensitive plants'. The latter closes their leaves when you try to touch them to protect themselves from insects. The students are excited to see what happens! We have been observing the plants, making predictions as to how long they will take to grow and watering them every day. They sure do like this hands-on experience. At the end of May, we will be going to the Assiniboine Zoo Conservatory for a presentation called 'Plantzilla' to learn about carnivorous plants.
Social Studies
We finished our unit on Egypt before Spring Break. We have been identifying the Continents and have begun a study on a country of each student's choice. They will be using their information gathered to create a keynote presentation on the iPads. We will be choosing a food dish to bring in to share with our classmates pertaining to our country. Notes will be sent home in the next few weeks with more information.
French
We have been working hard on a Fictional story about Ogopogo. Ask your child what they think about the Loch Ness Monster and Ogopogo and their beliefs as to whether they are real or not?
The grade 2s have started Cursive Writing and the grade 3s are continuing with writing sentences in cursive. We have been playing interactive games on the Smart Board reinforcing oral language acquisition. The students are becoming more confident in their French speaking abilities.
English
We wrote about our favourite Easter memory. We have been adding our own captions to comics and will soon be creating our own using Comic Life on the iPads. We also used Tellagami to create a character and make our character talk by recording our voices.
Art
We have been integrating Art into every subject this term. Last week, we had an artist named Sandra Wiebe come to do 3 lessons with the students for The Integrated Arts. We sketched, painted, and used a special type of modelling clay to create the parts of a flower.
It has been a busy time. It is hard to believe there will be only 2 school months left soon. Hopefully, the snow will all be gone soon (it is currently lightly snowing outside and it is April 24th- what?!)
